About this word
好 is good, 吃 is eat, so 好吃 is literally "good to eat". It belongs to a family of 好 + verb words where 好 means "good for the action named": 好看 (good to look at, pretty), 好听 (pleasant to hear), 好玩 (fun to play with), 好喝 (good to drink).
