What is SayHanzi?

SayHanzi is about the stories hiding inside Chinese characters. Every character carries a story that goes back thousands of years — and we're here to tell those stories in English, with the sound, the picture, and the meaning you need to truly understand them.

Whether you're learning Chinese, preparing for HSK, or just curious about the culture — start with any character, and see where its story leads.

Why free?

Most Chinese learning apps lock basic features behind signup walls or subscriptions. SayHanzi proves that useful tools don't need to be complicated — or expensive.

This project is built by someone who grew up with this language and culture, and wants to share it with the world. The goal is simple: help people outside China understand it — one character at a time.
