The story behind the character
白
白 has been argued over for a century. The oracle bone shape is a small pointed oval, and scholars have called it a thumb, a grain of rice, a rising sun, a human head. Nobody has won. Xu Shen went another route: 白, 西方色也, the color of the west, which is astrology more than etymology. What you are writing is a shape nobody can fully explain.
