The story behind the character
找
找 is 扌 (hand) next to 戈, a dagger-axe. That pairing doesn't add up to anything clean, and this is a late character, coined well after the Shuowen. Nobody has a satisfying story for why a hand and a weapon should mean to look for. The character got drafted for the job, and 找 has been the word for searching ever since.
