The story behind the character
晴
晴 is 日 (sun) on the left with 青 on the right giving the sound. Sun out, no clouds, that is the whole thing. This is a plain 形声字, one half meaning and one half sound, with no ancient story buried inside. The 青 is there for the pronunciation, though it happens to be the word for blue-green.
