About this word
衣 is a garment, and 服 here is a second clothing word that no longer stands on its own in modern speech (by itself 服 means to serve, to obey, or to take medicine). Together they mean plain "clothes", with the meaning resting almost entirely on 衣. The 服 is unstressed: yī fu, not yī fú. 衣服 covers garments in general.
